New single out now!
To celebrate our 20 years of making dark music together, we released the past October 18th, a new single and video called "Light and Shadows".
Tamara Picardo comment about the song:
“For this single we wanted to go for a more raw sound, this decision is based on the concept within "Light and Shadows". It is a song that somehow evokes the spirit of our first albums and at the same time unites it with who we are now. In a way it is "proof" that we are still the same dreamy rebels, that 20 years ago got together to make dark music, and our flame is still furiously alive.
There are no political or philosophical references in this song... I wanted this song to be a bit of fresh air, among so many bad news and constant tragedies. Among so many people trying to convince another of something. This is poetry and extreme metal with all our passion and our blood”.
The song combines the raw sound of guitars, bass and fierce vocals with the poetry of the lyrics and the extremely dark atmosphere, emphasized by the keyboards.
This single will not be part of the new Upon Shadows album, which is in the process of being recorded and will be released next year.
As a curious fact, it should be said that the releases of Upon Shadows are always on the same date, and this is because October 18 is the birthday of Tamara Picardo, leader of the band.

Upon Shadows new single out NOW!
Our new single is called "Virtus Dormitiva" and was released the 18 of October /2021!
Press release:
Dark Metal Female duo Upon Shadows announced a new single entitled "Virtus Dormitiva" released the 18 of October/2021 !
In a mix between Extreme Metal and Dark Ambient, with strong presence of keyboards and synthesizers to create a sinister and melancholic atmosphere, “Virtus Dormitiva” shows the essence of Upon Shadows music, while recited, sung and guttural voices come and go to emphasize the emotionality and drama of the lyrics.
“Something special about this song is that it was the first time I played and recorded the drums myself, which marks the beginning of a new stage for me as a musician”. says Tamara Picardo.
About the concept of the song:
“Inspired by the comedy "The Imaginary Sick" (Le malade imaginaire) by Moliere (1673).
I take the expression "Virtus Dormitiva" as a metaphor to define the state of continuous drowsiness in which we find ourselves submerged. This state of drowsiness is generated by everyday life, day-to-day worries, fatigue, monotony, the pressure of social mandates (what is expected of us), obligations (work, subsistence), the feeling that we have to be super productive all the time (self-enslavement). The pressure of the media mixing news with entertainment, constantly bombarding the same topics, creating and imposing the "common sense." The unification of the masses under this "common sense" is like a giant wave that crushes individualities and leaves behind a uniform mass, generic and dead in ideas and passions”. Explains Tamara Picardo
"Virtus Dormitiva" was mixed and mastered by Mika Pohjola at Soundmix recording studio, Oulu, Finland in September 2021 and will be available on music platforms starting next October 18th.
